OpenThrottle: A Case Study

OpenThrottle is a peer-to-peer motorcycle renting startup from Malaysia. We created their website from the ground up; including a Ruby on Rails back-end integrated with a fully HTML5 compliant responsive layout. The result is a beautiful website / web app that can be used comfortably either on mobile or desktop.

Code

The backend was prototyped and built using Ruby on Rails, a popular and robust Ruby framework. The latest gems (like OmniAuth, or Geocoder) were deployed to further enhance functions, performances and security.

This website was entirely built as a personal project, as part of the Next Academy 2016 Web Developer Bootcamp. The code is available on GitHub and can be consulted or forked freely.

User Experience

Based on the "mobile first" principle, the website was built considering first and foremost the portable device crowd to ensure a 100% responsiveness of all features.

This gives a distinct app-like feeling and engages users with rich features without having to download a separate app. Laptop and Desktop users get the full fledged rich graphics experience and enjoy the same functionalities.

Design

The color set chosen (dark with hints of bright spots) is distinctly luxurious and hints at a selective and demanding audience.

The strong use of parallax scrolling on the home page is aimed at creating a visually attractive storytelling experience the user can relate to. HTML5 compliant, the latest CSS3 / Jquery techniques are used to engage users in an immersive world.
